Why Magento?

The past few  years, as a developer and owner of multiple web stores, I’ve been torn between all of the different open-source shopping cart solutions available today.  They each have their own advantages and disadvantages and it’s very tough to pick one favorite and run with it.  Recently, that decision has been made much easier for me personally.

In June of 2011, eBay / PayPal announced it would acquire the Magento shopping cart solution and make it part of their growing X.Commerce platform.  The possibilities of what they’ll do with it are endless and has gotten me very excited to make Magento my primary solution of choice.

What Does the USBSwiper Module Do?

Our module is developed as an extension of the built in PayPal Payments Pro (DirectPayment) module included with Magento 1.5 or higher.

When you activate the Payments Pro module, the option of keying in credit card information to process a payment for an order becomes available within the Magento checkout system.  While this works just fine for the majority of online shoppers, it’s not a great solution for actual store owners who wish to utilize the solution as a point-of-sale credit card processing solution.

Once you install our USBSwiper module into Magento and enable it the functionality of the credit card payment option will change slightly.  The one-page checkout order of procedures will change slightly, and a new field called Swipe will be added to the checkout form.  Using a USBSwiper credit card reader you can simply swipe the credit card into this field and it will automatically fill out the cardholder’s name, credit card type, number, and expiration date for you saving you loads of time through-out the course of a day.
